What are essential oils?

Essential oils are the pure, potent extractions from the stems, leaves, branches, bark and flowers of plants. Plants produce these essential oils to attract helpful things (like bees and pollinators) and repel others (like disease, bacteria, and fungus). Essential oils capture these highly concentrated natural oils that are the “essence” of the plant, including its aroma and healing properties. They have been used for so long in traditional medicines and aromatherapy as they are effective and simple to make via steam distillation — a process only requiring heat, water and the plant itself.
